LMC Camera Crashing

A crash is more useful to diagnose when you can name the exact point where it occurs. Treat launch, shutter, lens switching, video and XML-related crashes as separate symptoms rather than one generic result.

First pass

Return to a known baseline

  1. Write down the LMC release, exact APK filename and Android package ID.
  2. If the crash started after importing an XML, test the base app without that config before changing the APK as well.
  3. Open the app and test the main camera first. Then test shutter, saved image, front camera, auxiliary lenses and video separately.
  4. Record the first repeatable crash. A launch crash is different from a crash that appears only on one lens or one recording mode.

Narrow the cause

Change one variable at a time

Crashes at launch

Confirm the exact package you installed and whether the same build ever opened on this software state. Do not infer compatibility from the phone name alone.

Crashes on one lens

Keep the main camera as the control. A failure isolated to ultrawide, telephoto or front camera can be lens-access specific rather than an app-wide failure.

Crashes during video

Test a basic main-camera recording separately from high frame rate, high resolution and auxiliary-lens video. Those are different capabilities.

Crashes after XML import

Return to the unconfigured baseline. A config can change many settings at once, so a successful import is not proof that the profile matches the phone or build.

What not to conclude

One stable photo does not prove video or every lens works. One crash also does not prove that every package for the release will fail. Record the exact package, phone/software state and failing action so the result stays scoped.
