LMC 8.4 R16 came between R15 and R17. It focused on frame merging, viewfinder controls and interface fixes. The R16 listing has six APK variants. All of them use alternate package IDs, and no Standard package is listed for this release.
What’s new in LMC 8.4 R16
Added
- Frame-count selection for ZSL and HDRNet processing.
- A choice of function for a long tap, in the viewfinder settings.
- A zoom value you can set for each zoom button.
- A switch between low and high viewfinder resolution.
- A toggle for the exposure slider view.
- Several new subtle noise reduction presets.
- A Julian T colour transformation button (replacing the frame-count button), and an HDR effect item in the exposure compensation menu.
Fixed
- Frame merging on all interfaces. The minimum merge-frame threshold was removed, and the limit is 28 frames.
- The exposure slider in HDRNet.
- The front camera on some devices, such as OnePlus 6 and 7 models, including library loading.
- Various interface bugs.
Important for old configs
R16 removed the noise model, upscaling, black level and Julian CT settings. The developer warns that some parameters in older configs therefore need to be set again. If an R15 config looks wrong on R16, this is the likely reason.
Which R16 package to choose
Because R16 has no Standard file, pick the alternate package that matches your phone, based on the developer’s package notes:
- Snapcam or QCamera: Snapdragon phones.
- AWEME: some Realme, OPPO and OnePlus phones.
- Ruler or Scan3D: Samsung phones.
- Google Lens: if you want Google Lens.
Should you use R16 today?
Most people should use R18F1. R16 is mainly useful when a config was built specifically for it. To compare every build, see all LMC 8.4 versions.
How to install LMC 8.4 R16
- Use the download buttons above to get the file for your phone: Snapcam or QCamera for Snapdragon, AWEME for some Realme/OPPO/OnePlus phones, Ruler or Scan3D for Samsung.
- Uninstall any other app that uses the same package ID. All R16 files use IDs shared with other releases and apps.
- Install the APK, allow camera and photo access, and test the base app.
- Re-check the settings R16 removed before you rely on an old config (see below).
Because R16 has no Standard package, it cannot be installed as a completely separate app the way R15, R17 or R18F1 Standard can. If you want R16 next to another LMC, install that other release as its Standard file.
Using older configs on R16
R16 removed the noise model, upscaling, black level and Julian CT settings. A config made for R15 or earlier will still load, but any values it stored for those settings are ignored, and the result can look noisier, softer or differently coloured. The developer recommends setting those parameters again. If you do not want to retune, stay on R15 for that config. People also search for “LMC 8.4 R16 config file download”. Look for filenames in the config library that name R16, R17 or R18, because those were made after these settings were removed.
What R16’s frame-count settings do
R16 lets you pick how many frames are merged for ZSL and HDRNet. It removed the minimum merge-frame threshold and set the limit at 28 frames. More frames can lower noise in still scenes, but processing takes longer and moving subjects can blur or ghost. Fewer frames are faster and safer for motion. Start with the default and change one value at a time.
